Mangrove have had a super first term, and we have thrown ourselves completely into our current topic on WW2. From creating gas masks to baking rationed foods to writing diary entries as evacuees, our learning has been non-stop! We can't wait to continue our journey through WW2 after half term and share all our experiences with you at the celebration afternoon nearer the end of Term 2. Our trip to M-Shed has certainly been a highlight so far.
We have been lucky enough to receive some incredible primary and secondary sources to support our study of WW2 from grand-parents, neighbours, family friends etc. We have loved sharing these, so if you have WW2 related memorabilia or experiences you would like to share, please do.
In English, we are reading Letters from the Lighthouse which is a story told from the perspective of an evacuee. The children have produced some incredible writing from writing as a soldier to imagining they are an evacuee, play scripts and then non-chronological reports about evacuees to show-case our knowledge.
After half-term we will be focussing on the following areas in English and Maths:
English: Newspaper reports, fiction stories and poetry
Maths: Multiplying and dividing by 10,100 and 1000. Multiplying 4 by 2 digit numbers. Dividing 4 by 1 digit numbers. Prime numbers and factors. Christmas geometry!
If you have any WW2 related items or information at home, please do send it in as we all love hearing about it. If you feel you could offer to hear some readers perhaps one afternoon a week, please do let me know.
This support would be gratefully received.
