Welcome back to Term 4!
We have had such a fantastic start to 2019 in Maple and we thoroughly enjoyed our space topic. Thank you for all of your support with this topic. Our new topic is a history based topic where we will be learning all about The Mayans. We are really excited for everything we have planned!
In English we will start the term with playscripts to launch our topic of the Mayans. After, we will be spending a couple of weeks on instructional writing before studying the Mayan legend of 'The Hero Twins' before writing our own.
In Maths this term, we will be starting off with converting measures before moving on to volume. We will finish the term with revisiting decimals in order to introduce percentages. We will continue to practise the formal methods of the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to ensure that these skills and methods are retained.
Thank you for your continued support with encouraging your child to read at home; it has had such a positive impact on the reading culture across school. In Maple, we all have such a positive attitude towards reading and are absolutely loving getting stuck-in to all sorts of different genre books. This has helped us not only with our reading fluency, but to develop some amazing new vocabulary and some incredible ideas for our own writing. As well as our school library, we now have a Y5 specific set of books and are lucky enough to have our very own Y5 library! These books have been recommended as they are all age-appropriate, similarly to the 100 recommended reads for Y5/6.
If you are able to offer your support to pop in and read with the children in our class any afternoon, please do let me know. This support would be gratefully received.
Maple's 6 Book Challenge
Please have a look below at the books included in our '6 Book Challenge'. We have copies of each in class as well as our school library. Once completed, remember to fill in a book review like the one below. We have copies of our book review template in class but I have also attached the document at the bottom of the page. Good luck!
