We are really enjoying our study of WW2 in Maple and we had such a fantastic time on our school trip to the M-Shed where we learned all about Bristol during the war. Everyone made such an effort with dressing up as an evacuee and we can't wait to share some pictures with you in Term 2 during our topic celebration.
We have been lucky enough to receive some incredible primary and secondary sources to support our study of WW2 from grand-parents, neighbours, family friends etc. The children in Maple have loved sharing these, so if you have WW2 related memorabilia or experiences you would like to share, please do.
In English, we are reading Letters from the Lighthouse which is a story told from the perspective of an evacuee. The children have produced some incredible writing from the perspective of evacuees and have spent time writing diary entries in role. We are now writing playscripts from an extract of the book as we are very familiar with the characters. Next, we will be writing non-chronological reports about evacuees.
We are really excited to share some of our finished pieces of work with you at the end of Term 2.
If you are able to offer your support to pop in and read with the children in our class any afternoon, please do let me know. This support would be gratefully received.
Maple's 6 Book Challenge
Please have a look below at the books included in our '6 Book Challenge'. We have copies of each in class as well as our school library. Once completed, remember to fill in a book review like the one below. We have copies of our book review template in class but I have also attached the document at the bottom of the page. Good luck!
