Here at Birdwell we aim to deliver an inspiring and engaging mathematics curriculum which enables children to be numerate, creative, independent, inquisitive, enquiring and confident mathematicians.  We are following the National Curriculum for Mathematics, which aims to ensure that all pupils:

• become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent

practice, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and recall and apply knowledge

reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and

   generalisations, and using mathematical language

• can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems

New Maths Boards at Birdwell

We have introduced two new math boards around school:

  • one at the bottom of the stairs - KS1
  • one in the Dining room - KS2

At the moment the are called 'Odd One Out' boards - children have to decide which of generally 3 things is the odd one out.    They are loving these activities, so next time you are in school, do take a look at them.   Meanwhile, take a look at some recent photographs of the boards - you will find these below.
