Treehouse: Birdwell School's Breakfast and
After-School Club

Hungry caterpillarsWe understand that many parents need to work, or that school drop-off and pick-up times sometimes don't fit with other commitments. Treehouse provides a popular breakfast and after-school club provision for all pupils at Birdwell School, from nursery through to year 6, allowing parents flexibility in their working day.

Our provision provides children with a stimulating, supervised environment where they learn through play. Alongside a team of experienced play leaders, Treehouse is managed and run by Andrea Hanham. Andrea has been a member of the Birdwell team for over 25 years and has vast experience in working with children. Most of our Treehouse staff work at Birdwell during the day so are a  familiar face to the children.

Both our breakfast and after-school clubs are situated within the main school building, where there is ample room for the children to play and with direct access to a safe outside space for outdoor play. Children are divided into three groups within the space, according to age.

Breakfast Club

  • Open 7.45am – 9.00am Monday to Friday during the school term
  • £6.50 per child per session for nursery and reception age children
  • £5 per child in years 1 – 6
  • Included in the price is a choice of breakfast cereal.

After-School Club

  • Open 3.00pm – 5.30pm Monday to Thursday during the school term (no
    after-school club on Fridays)
  • £13.50 per child per session for nursery and reception age children
  • £9.00 per child in years 1 – 6
  • Parents need to provide a small snack and drink for the session which can be sent in with your child at the beginning of the school day.

What does a typical after-school session include?

On arrival, all children sit down for a snack and drink together. Weather permitting, we then go outside for active play with an assortment of outdoor equipment, such as bats and balls, beanbags, hoops or skittles. We also have a play pod with a whole host of resources for imaginative play.

Between 4.30pm and 5pm we head back inside where the children can take part in a range of activities. These can vary depending on the time of year, but some examples include:

  • Arts and crafts such as drawing, painting, model making or biscuit decorating
  • Construction toys e.g. Lego / K'nex
  • Imaginative / role play with dressing up clothes, dolls house, castle, Playmobil figures or in a play shop or kitchen
  • A reading corner with a selection of age-appropriate books
  • For the older ones there is a choice of board games
